CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNTS:
WESTERN SONOMA COUNTY CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT
The first count of the 21st Century will take place on January 2, 2000, the 1st Sunday of the year, which makes it a good way to start your year list.
Counters will be placed in 20 teams consisting of a leader and members of varying skills. The teams will cover the area in the map shown in the map below.
The count will start at about 7:30 AM and conclude around 4:30 PM, whereupon we will join together at the Sebastopol Community Center, 390 Morris St. in Sebastopol for a potluck and a tally of the day's sightings.
Coffee, tea, cocoa and cups will be provided. Please bring your own plates, utensils and a supper dish for 6.
Volunteers are needed to help set up the potluck . If you can help please call Peter Leveque at 542-8946.
The results of this nationwide count are published in American Birds as an indicator of species well-being throughout the hemisphere. Participants are asked to pay $5.00 for processing and publication of the count results. Team leaders will collect the fee. Scholarships are available.
