Hummingbirds: Life in the Fast Lane

Hummingbirds are always going overboard. They are the tiniest members of the avian world, and as a family one of the most numerous (at least 319 species). Costumed in dazzling colors, they perform flamboyant aerial displays, soaring, hovering, diving, and even flying upside down and backwards. Despite their fast-paced metabolism and frenetic pace of daily life, they endure trans-continental migrations over many thousands of miles.

Meryl Sundove, naturalist and Education Coordinator at the Richardson Bay Audubon Center in Tiburon, will show remarkable slides and tell us more about hummingbirds' biology and life histories, at Madrone Audubon's General Meeting on Monday evening, January 18. She will also share some tips on attracting hummingbirds to your yard.

The meeting begins at 7:30 PM, January 18, 1998, at the first Presbyterian Church, Ingram Hall, 1550 Pacific Avenue, Santa Rosa. As always, the public is welcome.
