Midweek Walkabout Results
Wednesday, September 23, 1998 Nineteen people joined
Jean and Jim Tonascia on a clear, warm day at Duncans Mills. Black and
White Warbler, Pygmy Nuthatch and our usual Wood Ducks were outstanding
birds for the day. After lunch the group decided to go to Bodega Bay to
look for reported vagrants. We didn't get them all, but did see Prothonotary
and Blackburnian Warblers.
Thursday, October 8, 1998 On a day that started
out with light rain, eighteen birders joined Jean and Jim Tonascia at Bodega
Bay. As the day progressed, the weather became perfect and produced several
unusual sightings: Common Tern, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Parasitic
Jaeger, and a scoter that appeared to be a cross between a Surf and
White-winged. The total count was 79 birds.
Wednesday, October 14, 1998 Fourteen birders enjoyed
a warm and sunny day of exploring the Howarth Park and Spring Lake area,
finding 54 species. Highlights included a Black-throated Gray Warbler,
a Red-breasted Sapsucker and a Golden Eagle. The exotic and
colorful male Mandarin Duck was spotted in the cove at the east end
of Lake Ralphine. |
