PeeWee Report
Wildflower Walk On Saturday April 4th, I went on
the Pee Wee Audubon wildflower hike at the Van Hoosear Wildflower Preserve
and I had a great time! One of the things I learned from Peter the naturalist
was that when a lupine losses its nectar the little white spot darkens.
Again, that was just one thing that I learned. I also tasted a plant called
miner's lettuce, but it is very dull in taste. I also tasted sheep sorrel
and it was the good one, it tasted sweet and sour at the same time, but
Peter said not to eat too much of it.
Our group identified some of these flowers and plants: soap plant, suncup,
fiddle neck, baby blue eyes, cranesbill (I like to make scissors with them),
California poppies, iris, blue eyed grass, mountain viola, pepperweed, popcorn
flowers and checkerbloom. Peter also told us that the licorice plant is
not a native plant to our country. I had a wonderful time learning about
and exploring the wildflowers. Thank you Pee Wee Audubon.
