Annual Meeting, May 18 Saving the Marin-Sonoma Coast
That is the title of Dr. Griffin's lively, readable, and attractive new book, which chronicles the battle to save the natural values of our coast. Dr. Griffin has devoted much of his life to the struggles for Audubon Canyon Ranch, Point Reyes, and the Russian River. His battle tales are full of fascinating and familiar people, foiled development schemes, and understandings that will change forever our perceptions of treasured North Bay places. Every resident of Sonoma County should know what Dr. Griffin has to say about the Russian River, gravel mining, water supplies, and the future of Sonoma County. His talk, like his book, will be part memoir, part history, and part prescription for conservation action. Dr. Griffin, a physician and owner of the Hop Kiln Winery in Dry Creek, co-founded Audubon Canyon Ranch, which operates the Bouverie Preserve near Glen Ellen. His book is available in paper for $29.95 or hard-back for $45. It will be available for purchase at the meeting, and Dr. Griffin will be happy to autograph it for you. All Madrone Audubon members and friends are invited to attend. Please bring a potluck dish for six (entrée, salad or dessert), along with your own dishes and utensils. The Chapter will provide beverages (sorry, no wine or spirits at the church). The meeting will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Ingram Hall, 1550 Pacific Avenue, Santa Rosa. Arrival time is around 6:00 PM; dinner will be served at 6:30, and the program will follow at 7:30. Come early or stay late if you can help with set-up or clean-up. Ernie Smith requests that those bringing flowers or other table decorations have them at the hall by 5:30. As always, there is no charge for this very special event. |
