Midweek Walkabout Results
Wednesday, Feburary 11, 1998 On a rare sunny day
in this El Niño year, 11 people met leader Betty Burridge at Howarth
Park for an easy walk and a fine day of birding. Two Merlins perched
in eucalyptus at the parking lot, Oak Titmice were already setting
up housekeeping along the trail to Spring Lake, and an Osprey surveyed
Lake Ralphine from a snag. In all, 51 species were seen.
Thursday, February 19, 1998 This Walkabout was
cancelled because Grizzley Island was closed due to flooding.
Wednesday, February 25, 1998 The weather provided
a good start to the Walkabout at Pt. Reyes, but the California drizzle cut
the day in half. Twelve good people managed 38 species before the deluge.
Highlights were a perched Peregrine Falcon and a passel of Common
Snipe at Olema marsh.
Thursday, March 5, 1998 Undaunted by the rain,
21 birders met at the Bodega Harbor Rail Ponds. The walk ended at 10:30
because of the rain. A total of 68 species were observed, including three
species of Loons (in Bodega Harbor and offshore at Bodega Head) and Pigeon
Guillemots (offshore at Bodega Head). |
