Field Trip Report
December 13, 1997 Ten birders braved the extremely cold and windy weather
at Petaluma Waste Water Treatment Ponds and Schollenberger Park. Several
species of ducks were seen at the oxidation ponds, including both male and
female Blue-winged Teal. Many Bonaparte's Gulls were also
sighted. Several Black-necked Stilts and Avocets were seen
at Schollenberger Park. Total species seen were 47. At noon, we chipped
the icicles off our noses and went home.
January 10, 1998 Five people joined Ian Morrison
to bird Bodega Bay and Doran Park. Despite the rainy conditions, 80 species
were found including Snowy Plover, Peregrine Falcon, Red Knot, several
immature and adult Heerman's Gulls and a Red-necked Grebe. At
the Head we watched in fascination as five seals porpoised in unison through
the heavy surf. |
