Successful Christmas Bird Count Field Trip Reports |
1998 Birdathon: For Fun and Profit Madrone's annual February Birdathon is fun for those who bird, and provides important financial support for projects such as Pee Wee Audubon, Audubon Adventures, and the Mayacamas Sanctuary. While getting pledges from friends and neighbors outside the birding community, you can also inform them about the ecological richness of our county and your interest in Audubon. For the birder, the objective of the Birdathon is to see as many species as possible in any 24-hour period during the month of February. You pick the date, and, if you wish, put together a team to bird with. Then get sponsors to pledge a contribution for each species you see, or a flat amount for your efforts. After your count is completed, notify each sponsor of the number of species you saw and the money due. (It's a nice gesture to also provide a report of your day, and a list of the birds seen.) Collect the funds (checks made out to Madrone Audubon Society), and send them to MAS, Post Office Box 1911, Santa Rosa, California 95402, Attention: Birdathon. Please include the names of your team members and contributors, for acknowledgement in the Leaves. For more information, suggestions on raising pledges, and pledge forms, please call Judy Burness at 833-5552. Those who don't want to get out in the field can pledge, or raise pledges, to support one of the established Madrone Birdathon teams listed below. |
