Sonoma County Water Wishes | Pee Wee Audubon Goes Hawk WatchingPee Wee Audubon launches its fall season with a trip to Hawk Hill inthe Marin Headlands on Sunday, September 21. All interested children abovethe age of 4, their families and friends, are invited to join this excitingannual gathering. We'll meet at 10:30 AM, at this spectacular spot wherethe masters of the wind concentrate to cross the Golden Gate during theirpeak migration time. With us will be Deb Kremins, a fascinating educatorwho specializes in teaching about birds of prey. If the weather permits,trained people will be capturing raptors in the valley below for banding,and will bring some to the hill where we can see them up close before theyare released. Directions: Take Highway 101 south to the last Sausalito (Marin Headlands)exit before the Golden Gate Bridge. From the off-ramp make an immediateleft, then an immediate right onto Conzelman Road. Go 1.8 miles up the hillto the summit. Pull off the road completely to park before the road becomesone-way. Use the restrooms here and walk behind the white gate on the oceanside of Hawk Hill. Continue to the summit and to the middle platform wherewe will gather. Please call Elham at 573-7183 to register, as space is limited. The outing will last until about 2:00 PM, so bring lunch and liquidsfor a picnic overlooking the spectacular San Francisco Bay. Dress in layersfor cool winds and fog, including a windbreaker and a sweater, and bringbinoculars if you have them. |
