30 Years and Still Counting |
Spring CampoutFifty-six species of birds, wildflowers galore and Hale-Bopp at its best delighted the 35 campers on our annual spring campout at the Mayacamas Audubon Preserve. Friday night, Roger Marlowe lead the group on a search for Screech Owls. We were more than successful with their calling throughout the night. A Common Poorwill was heard by a number of the campers very early Saturday morning. Saturday, many of the group participated in the Chapter's on-going bird census of the Preserve and were treated to a Pygmy Owl responding to Roger's calls. Later Saturday morning we had excellent views of California Thrashers and Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, but the Wilson's and Black-throated Gray Warblers won the color contest. As usual the food and comradeship were at their very best and we all had a fine time. |
