Wednesday, March 19, 1997 Twenty-three birders
met at Point Reyes Visitor Center where a weasel gave every one a very good
view of himself. At Oleam Marsh, a pair of Blue-winged Teal, Cinnamon
Teal courting. Eighty-one species were seen on a very nice spring day.
Thursday, March 27, 1997 Twenty-three birders joined
Dennis Beall for a birdwalk at Duncans Mills on March 27. Under clear skies
64 species were sighted. Windy weather on the coast caused the group to
bird Willow Creek. That was a bit of luck as the highlight of the trip occured
on Willow Creek, where a Red-hot Poker plant played host to several Purple
Finches. The color contrasts were outstanding, plus the birds were very
close.
Wednesday, April 2, 1997 Eighteen enthusiastic
birders joined Laurence and Barbara Taylor at Bodega Bay under sunny but
windy conditions. A total of 66 species were observed. In birding, the highlight
of the day was wathching the Ospreys feast. At one time three were
diving and catching or missing fish, all within easy view. The good news,
the whales are back, several were seen before the wind came up. |
