Beginners Bird Walks

Saturday, March 15
Twelve birders walked the south side of Santa Rosa Creek from Willowside Road towards Delta Pond. We enjoyed the spring rituals which included a food exchange between White-tailed Kites and copulating Red-tailed Hawks. Highly active Downy and Nuttall's Woodpeckers were a delight to watch. A total of 39 species were seen.

Saturday, April 5
A quiet stroll along Alpine Road provided a chance to view the newly returned migrant song birds which use the vegetation along Mark West Creek for breeding. We enjoyed the songs of Black-headed Grosbeak, Warbling Vireo, Orange-crowned and Wilson's Warblers. The walk finished with a good look at a Pileated Woodpecker flying by. Twenty-two birders saw a total of 32 species.
