Pee Wee Report

Spring Lake State County Park
February, 1997Wow, it was so windy at Spring Lake, other visitors were flyingkites. We saw a few birds and three turtles climbing out of the water tosun on a rock. One of them didn't have room so he swam off. We got a closerlook at the dead Cormorant caught in a tall tree by the fishing linecaught on its leg. We finished our walk around the lake and had lunch androde bikes for an hour.

P.S. At the start of the meeting we heard some scary stories of owlsattacking people wearing hats made out of other animals or bird feathers. One person was killed. At the end of the walk we were given bird housesto put up at the next meeting at Spring Lake or at home or other good birdhome spot.

A crowd of children went on a bird walk with the Pee Wee Audubon Club.We saw Turkey Vultures, Cormorant, Robin, Mallard, Red-winged Blackbird,Great Egret, and Great Blue Heron. We got stickers for answeringquestions right, met new friends and walked around the lake, but best ofall we got to make birdhouses to bring back to Spring Lake in March.

I liked the hummingbirds the best because of the dance they do. I wouldlike to be able to dance like the hummingbirds. I learned a lot of things.I am building a bird house this week with my Dad and we will bring it tothe park.
