Wednesday, February 5, 1997 On a beautiful spring-likeday with temperatures in the 60s, 19 birders visited Stafford Lake nearNovato. The resident Spotted Sandpiper was in its cove as usual,and Bluebirds and Lesser Goldfinches decorated the oak treesand fences at the west end of the lake. The afternoon was spent watchingraptors and water birds at the oxidation ponds near John F. McInnis CountyPark in San Rafael. Sixty-four species were seen. Thursday, February 13, 1997 On a bright sunny day,19 birders joined Jean and Jim Tonascia at Howarth and Spring Lake and found58 species. Special birds for the day were Common Moorhen, Ringed-neckDuck, Green-backed Heron, and several Common Mergansers. |
