Each spring, Madrone and other BayArea Audubon chapters help provide hosts for Audubon Canyon Ranch in Bolinas.Even a first-time visitor to the ranch can serve as a host; you simply meet thecarloads of visitors as they arrive, direct them to the parking area, and seethat they register. The duty lasts from 9:45 AM to 4 PM on Saturday or Sunday, with a break for lunch. By arriving at 9:00, hosts can walk up the path for aprivate look at the Ranch's scores of breeding herons and egrets. A great wayto spend a day--and you can sign up with a friend. Judy Brinkerhoff iscoordinating our Host assignments this year. She will pass a signup sheet atthe February 17 membership meeting, and can be contacted at 887-1500. * Outreach. Over the past several years, a Madrone Audubon booth atyouth fairs and conservation events has brought our message to many hundreds ofchildren and adults in Sonoma County. Sam and Viola Brown, who spearheaded thisprogram, have resigned to do more traveling. Needed are both a chairperson toorganize the materials and arrange for Madrone's participation, and volunteersto help staff the booths. Many thanks to Sam and Viola for their energy andgood work. * Audio-visual setup for membership meetings. This involves setting upthe PA system for our monthly meeting eight times each year, and storing theequipment in between. Some prior knowledge of A-V equipment is desirable butnot necessary; "on the job" training will be provided. * Representative to SCCC. Ernestine Smith has decided that after about15 years as Madrone's representative to the Sonoma County Conservation Council, she would like someone else to take on the responsibility. The positionrequires monitoring local developments for issues of concern to the Chapter, representing us at the monthly SCCC meeting, and reporting back to the Board ofDirectors. The SCCC representative is an ex-officio member of the MadroneBoard. Be assured, you don't have to be "another Ernestine Smith" to serve. There is only one Ernie Smith, but the new representative will bring his or herown capabilities to the position. |
