It's time for one of Pee Wee Audubon's favoriteprojects: providing houses for this year's new bird families. On Sunday,February 23, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM we'll take a bird walk at Spring Lakewith John Klobas and Jim Kirk. These enthusiastic, knowledgeable naturalistswill help us find and identify local wintering birds, learn what birds arelikely to nest here, and choose the sites for some new bird houses. Then, we'llhand out kits for bird houses to be assembled at home. In March, bring thecompleted birdhouse and we'll put it up at Spring Lake. You may also choose toput up your birdhouse in your own back yard or along a community trail. Bring binoculars if you have them, and a picnic lunch. Dress warmly in layers.Meet at Spring Lake (Channel Drive entrance) parking lot below the Visitor'sCenter between the Lake and the swimming lagoon. There is a park day-use fee.Call Elham at 573-7183 to reserve your place and bird boxes. Be sure to alsosave March 23 for putting up our boxes. These outings are for children, theirfamilies and anyone who enjoys being with them. Pee Wee Birdathon. This year for the second time, Pee Wee will field ateam of young birders to see how many different species they can find, and helpsupport Madrone Audubon's annual Birdathon fund drive. One of the programs itsupports is Pee Wee Audubon! Madrone is lining up some sponsors who will make amoney contribution for each different species we see. Pledges by parents,relatives, or friends are also encouraged. Please call Elham for moreinformation or to join the Pee Wee Birdathon.
