November 24, 1996
Point Reyes, Bolinas Lagoon--Ten people attended. Weather wasideal, cool and overcast in the morning with very light drizzle clearing toscattered clouds and warming sun.

Both diversity and abundance were good with 72 different species seen andseveral thousand birds observed. We were treated to large numbers ofRuby-crowned Kinglets in all locations other than the lagoon.Townsend's Warblers were seen repeatedly. Red Crossbills wereheard at Five Brooks, but only one female seen. Ring-necked Ducks andCedar Waxwings were a treat. A Double-crested Cormorant perched150 feet up in a fir tree was a comic highlight. Roughly 1,500 Pintail,hundreds of Wigeon, including a male Eurasian, Long-billedCurlew and Whimrel were some of the highlights. Raptors at thelagoon included an Osprey, a Peregrine and a Harrier. BothBrown and White Pelicans made appearances.

December 14, 1996
Petaluma Wastwater Ponds--Birds targeted for the day made theirentrance as if on cue. Two Mute Swans and dozens of Canada Geeseheaded the list of 58 birds. The weather was bright and sunny. A large group ofWhite Pelicans put on a spectacular show. Sixteen people attended thewalk.

January 11, 1997
Twelve birders joined Ian Morrison at Bodega Bay on a cool, overcastday. Ninety-six species were found including three species of Loons, aTownsend's Warbler at eye level and a small flock of Golden-crownedKinglets. Highlights included a Sora at the Rail Ponds that affordedeveryone lengthy views and a Northern Harrier devouring a mouse in themarsh area of Doran County Park.
