Beginners Bird Walk

by Ken Wilson

Our series of Saturday morning Beginners Bird Walks started 1997 with a January4 trip to Rush Creek Open Space Preserve in Marin County. Seventeen birdersenjoyed pleasant weather and a relaxed atmosphere, with good looks at 49species. Ducks were plentiful: 11 species, with Green-winged Teal busilydisplaying. A group of Black-necked Stilts were a delight to watch, anda Hermit Thrush came into the open to provide us with an excellent view. Our highlight of the morning was a perched Ferruginous Hawk, who gave usa fly-by as he departed. See the Calendar for upcoming walks.
