Mayacamas Sanctuary Update

Many thanks to the dozen people, aged 9 and up, who helped with work day at theMayacamas Sanctuary on Saturday, November 9. They removed a truckload of ironsheeting and other debris from a drainage channel, put up two screech owlboxes, improved the campsite area, dug and constructed a privy, and obstructedaccess to some trails that have been used by off-road vehicles. Another workday is being scheduled for January, probably the third Saturday. If you canhelp, please call Peter Leveque at 542-8946.

About 25 fortunate campers attended Madrone Audubon's second overnight at theSanctuary, October 5. They had great owling and a superb potluck dinner, whilecamped in a magical setting. We hope to have a Spring campout again in '97.

Our bird census teams continue to monitor their study plots at the Sanctuary. With six teams censusing two plots and completing Area Search Forms at leastonce a month, a lot of data is being collected. Coding and compiling theresults is Bridgette Voth, a student volunteer who is in her second year ofenvironmental studies at Santa Rosa Junior College. The census will continuethrough next summer or fall.
