From a lone Common Murre offthe Head, to calling Virginia Rails at the Rail Ponds, to a largeflock of American Pelicans off Smith Brothers Road, Bodega showedoff its diversity of species. Elegant Terns at Spud Point providedgood looks while the brilliant yellow and black of Townsend's Warblerscontrasted with the striking black and white plumage of Black-throatedGray Warblers at Owl Canyon. Saturday, October 5, 1996 On a warm, cloudless day, eleven birders joined Lew Edmondson at Hawk Hillon the Marin Headlands. Due probably to a virtual lack of wind, the daystarted off slowly with only a few raptors making an appearance. Later,Sharp-shinned and Cooper's Hawks made their way south accompaniedby a few Red-shouldered, Red-tailed and Broad-winged Hawks. The afternoon was topped off by volunteers of the Golden Gate Raptor Observatoryin an interesting talk on raptor migration and a hawk-banding demonstration. |
