Beginners Bird Walk Report

September 7, 1996
Santa Rosa Creek at Willowside Road
Enjoying clear skies and sunshine, 22 birders peered into the riparianfoliage bordering the trail. The birding was good, though berry picking enjoyedequal favor at times.

Yellow Warblers were present in large numbers with scatterings ofWilson's and Orange-crowned Warblers also present. SeveralWestern Tanagers showed, one with a grasshopper. While BeltedKingfishers circled overhead, two White-tailed Kites engaged in whatappeared to be a food exchange, though no food was obvious to those watching. One of the Kites was later observed on a nest in a nearby oak. Two maleAmerican Kestrels gave us a display of close-formation flying whileAmerican Pelicans circled over the laguna. Our list total for themorning was 42 birds.
