SORA

Photo and Text by Norris Dyer

Sora

A rail that likes the same food and territory as the Virginia Rail, the Sora is a bit smaller at just under 9". It has a yellow bill, unlike the long, curved, darker bill of the Virginia Rail. During fall/winter they can be seen daily by the shorelines of the freshwater channels that border the park entrance. The Sora seem to be more vocal than the Virginia Rail, calling in a high, squeaky, descending whinny.
