ACTION ALERT
Sonoma County Supervisors'
final vote on the
Dutra asphalt plant will be scheduled
in September or October 2010,
Sonoma County Supervisors' meeting room, 575 Administration Dr,
Suite 100A, Santa Rosa.
Stay tuned.
The finish line is in sight,
and the majority of votes (3-2) are now in favor of saving Shollenberger,
but you can be sure that Dutra will not go quietly into the
night.
We are extremely pleased
that Supervisors' Shirlee Zane, Valerie Brown, and Efren Carrillo
voted for Shollenberger Park, its wildlife, and the people of
Petaluma and Sonoma County. However, continued energy and effort
is vital up until the formal vote on MAy 11, 2010. Please continue
to send thanks to these three supervisors.

Why you should attend: this county project affects you.
Dutra Materials proposes a 24-hour business with nighttime operations,
continuous noise, emissions, dust particles, odors, and an assured
change to life as all users of Shollenberger Park have known.
The county planning staff has recommended approving the environmental
impact report, which contains impacts that cannot be reduced
to an acceptable legal degree: noise, emissions, cumulative impacts,
etc.
Shollenberger Park, wildlife, and the Petaluma River are threatened
by this large asphalt plant and recycling operation directly
across and upwind from Shollenberger. The heron and egret rookery
is very seriously threatened.
We can make a difference for Shollenberger
Park and the wildlife, and we must. Your mere presence will say
volumes about your support.
On 16 October the Sonoma County Planning Commission approved
Dutra's asphalt plant proposal with minor modifications; the
commissioners sent the modified plan to the County Board of Supervisors
for their decision in December.
It is very important that everyone come to the hearing of the
Board of Supervisors in December. Your input is important in
getting minimal negative impacts from this project. If you cannot
attend the meeting, please write the board of supervisors, particularly
Mike Kerns, with your concerns. We recommend that you demand
that the board requires Dutra to provide "Complete Containment"
to the plant and operate under Alternate "C" as defined
in the EIR, which eliminates asphalt recycling on site, nighttime
operations, cuts total production to 70% of maximum, and makes
minor modifications on building placement. This is the minimum
negative option short of not building the plant on this site.
